Hello Loves! I am incredibly happy to have you join me!
Get to know me…
I am a 24-year-old Entrepreneur from Rockford, IL. As you are reading this I am probably writing a blog post, building a website, crafting, enjoying life, or spending time with my lovely babies. I am a fur momma to 2 little girls. I have a Yorkie mix named Lola and a Shih Tzu named Sadie.
Since I was a child “business mentality” was instilled in me. My dad owns his own business and has always been a part of business networks. I was raised with tough love and was taught to become an independent woman. Which is what molded me into the woman that I am today.
I have been living on my own since I was 18 years old. After high school, I went away to college at Northern Illinois University (NIU). I was the first person in my immediate family to attend a university. I had my future planned out exactly how I expected it to go. I moved into a dorm with my best friend. I was going to obtain my B.S.N and become a Registered Nurse (RN) working in the Emergency Room at a major hospital in Southern California. I was going to be married and have my first child by the age of 25. But little did I know God had an ENTIRELY different plan for me.
After attending NIU for a semester, I was forced to drop out. Unfortunately, I did not have the finances to pay my tuition in full. I was completely devastated. I thought I was a failure who was going to be working as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) the rest of my life. I had to completely re-evaluate my life and the path I was going to take to reach my goals. I had no idea how I was going to do it, but I knew I was going to make it happen.
I spent 2 years working as a CNA at an outpatient rehabilitation center. In 2013, I became a Flight Attendant in which I enjoyed a ton. But it was difficult because I had a dog and a boyfriend that I was always away from. I moved to Iowa in October of 2013. The commute to work became extremely difficult so I eventually resigned from being a Flight Attendant.
I began working in a Hospital in Iowa City as a Monitor Technician. I did this for a couple of years and began attending community college. This was my second attempt to try and get through college. I am not the type of person who wants to do one thing forever. I like change and getting new experiences. I had been working in the medical field since high school and was burnt out. So I changed my major to computer science.
Unfortunately, my options were limited at a community college level for computer science. In order to obtain a computer science degree, I had to attend a university again. My finances still did not allow a university to be an option for me. I ended up right back at square one. What was I going to do?!
Regardless of the obstacles, I had to face, I was never going to let them stop me from being successful. I just needed to be more creative in how I was going to get there. I began thinking outside of the box and looking at the bigger picture. I realized that you do not need a college degree to be successful. In fact, a majority of millionaires and billionaires do not have college degrees.
We live in a time where technology is continuously emerging. I have always been an expert with tech so I decided to pursue it as a career. I never imagined in my younger years that this would be a career option for me. I began to teach myself how to code and within my first year of learning I had published 2 live websites. This was a huge accomplishment for me!
That was the very moment that I realized, my success was in my own hands. I decided to stop letting others dictate my future and took the leap to become my own damn boss! I no longer was going to wait for the light at the end of the tunnel. I decided to light that bit** up myself!
Now, I am completely SELF-EMPLOYED! I am a self-taught Web Developer. I started my own business called Kay Marketing building websites for businesses. I am also a crafter. If there is something that I can make myself, I will. At times, I would post pictures of my finished projects and receive great feedback. I took great feedback and started my own online boutique called Salvage to Savage. I make various pieces of furniture and decor items. Also, I can’t forget to mention, I am a lifestyle blogger! But you already know that!
I love what I do! It has never been easy. But through my struggles, it made me a stronger and wiser woman. Being an Entrepreneur has allowed me finally start living a life that I love. I have ultimate freedom beyond what I could have ever imagined. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. My original plan for my life did not work out the way I had hoped but this is why. God’s plan was bigger for me. We may not always understand why things happen. But remain faithful and trust in the process. God has a great plan for you too! It was an amazing moment when my career and passion came together! I am just a girl chasing her dreams one day at a time.
