Being an Entrepreneur requires a lot of hard work and dedication. You have to go against the norm and do what most people won’t. You have to push yourself beyond limitations.
Although, there are many great benefits to being an Entrepreneur there are cons as well. Many Entrepreneurs do not live a very healthy lifestyle. They get soo caught up in their work (I am guilty of this) and forget to eat, exercise, spend time with family, etc. Being a Blogger as well as a Web Developer, I will be the first one to admit that I do not live the healthiest lifestyle. Although I try, I constantly find myself falling back into my bad habits. When I start working on my blog, I block everything else out and go to town. A lot of times I forget to eat, get up and move around and maintain a social life. Thank God for my boyfriend and dogs because they remind me that I need to get up! But the truth is, we just get in the zone and time flies by.
Entrepreneurs (including myself) need to learn how to create balance and maintain a healthier lifestyle. It is not healthy to work 24/7 and put your health at the bottom of your list of priorities. It may be getting you by at the moment, but there will come a point when your body, relationships, family, etc. will start showing you that things need to change.
10 Ways To Maintain A Healthy Lifestyle While Being An Entrepreneur
1. Listen to motivational music/podcasts
Listening to music while working is not for everyone. But if listening to music and podcasts is motivational to you, I highly recommend them while working. They can be uplifting and keep you motivated. My favorite kind of music to keep me motivated is dance, techno, trance, and relaxing music.
Some of my favorite Podcasts
- Becoming Fearless by Annie Spano
- The Side Hustle Show
- Rich Bitch by Angie Lee
- Bucci Radio by Amanda Bucci
Find what genre of music and podcasts work for you and go to town!
2. Diffuse essential oils
This is one of my absolute favorite things to do. There are tons of benefits of using essential oils. You can read my post about the uses and benefits of essential oils here. Aromatherapy helps me stay focused and puts me in a calm and relaxed state of mind. I love it and highly recommend it to anyone who has troubles staying focused.
Essential oil diffusers can be pretty pricey. But you can check out my favorite affordable essential oil diffuser here. Also, I have a stunning marble grain essential oil diffuser available in my store. You can shop my store by clicking the tab in my top bar menu or by clicking the link below.
3. TAKE BREAKS
Taking breaks is VITAL! This is something that I need to work on myself. But honestly, it is extremely important. Our mind can only handle so much. Mental and physical breaks from work are necessary to refocus and recenter your mind. A great way to implement taking breaks would be setting a reminder on your phone to get up, take a break, and move around for 5-10 minutes every hour. Disconnect from work mode even if it is for a brief period of time. You will be surprised to find yourself become more productive.
4. Make exercising part of your daily routine
A healthy body will maintain a healthy mindset. When you feel good about yourself, you will feed good and confident in other areas of your life. Many Entrepreneurs including myself get soo caught up in their work that they forget to be active. Incorporate exercise into your daily routine in some sort of way. If you are a morning person, work out in the morning before you start your day. If you are a night owl, work out at the end of your workday. Even if is 30-60 minutes a day 3-4 times a week.
5. Eat healthy meals
First of all, it is important to make sure that you are actually eating! I know that we can get sidetracked and if our stomachs do not kick us in the butt, we forget to eat. MAKE SURE YOU ARE EATING! Also, make sure that you are following healthy eating habits. Do not wait to eat all day and then binge eat junk food late at night because you are starving. I know that often times we eat unhealthy because it is more convenient to throw something in the microwave than it is to put together a salad. Or it is more convenient to go through a fast food drive-thru to grab a cheeseburger and fries than it is to eat a salad while on the go. But find a way to make eating healthy a convenience for you as well. Maybe that means spending Sundays preparing meals for the week to just grab and go. Have healthy snacks prepared to grab and go.
6. Create a routine and stick to it
When you are an Entrepreneur, you have to self-motivate yourself. Many times this can be difficult. But a great way to make sure that you are creating balance, staying motivated, staying on track, and accomplishing tasks is creating a routine. Routines are going to look different for everyone so it is important to find what works for you. An example of a routine for myself:
6-8 am: Wake up and work out
8 am: Eat breakfast. Engage with social media, check and respond to emails, write posts
9- 11 am: Take a 10-minute break. Write blog content
12pm: 30 min- 1 hour lunch
1-5pm: Take a 10-minute break. Continue working on blog content, engage with social media, emails
6 pm: Dinner
7-8pm: Finish up blog content for the day
9-10 pm: Family time
Try your best to stick to routines the best as possible because it will keep you on track and allow you to accomplish more. If you do not have goals with time frames set you will just work at your own pace. Setting deadlines for yourself will push you to accomplish them. Once you have completed your tasks reward yourself and take a break.
7. Learn to manage your stress
Honestly, everything that I have mentioned in this post is all going to be beneficial to you in managing your stress. Although all of these tips are going to help, it is ultimately up to you to learn how to cope and deal with the stress. In times when you are feeling stressed just stop and take a break to recenter. If you cannot seem to regain focus, that is your mind telling you it needs a longer break. Here are some examples of things that you can do to help recenter and relax yourself.
- Take a hot bath with some essential oil Epsom salts or your favorite bath bomb
- Diffuse essential oils. (If you want to learn more about the benefits of essential oils read my blog post about The Benefits of Essential Oils and How To Use Them. Also, check out my favorite inexpensive essential oil diffuser here or you can check out a stunning marble grain diffuser in my shop here)
- Sweat it out. Go for a walk, run, work out.
- Read an inspirational book, article, or post
- Listen to inspirational podcasts or videos
- Listen to music and dance it out
- JUST BREATHE
- Go to bed earlier and start the next day with a fresh start
8. Be more present in your relationships
Money cannot buy true love and happiness. You could become the most successful person in the world, have all of the money you always dreamed of, drive the nicest vehicle, live in the nicest house, and live an awesome lifestyle. But at the end of the day, you will not be as happy as you may think if you are lonely and have no one to share your life with. Remain humble and do not forget about the ones standing right in front of you. Do not let the money get to your head because I promise you, you will end up lonely and unhappy at the end of the day. Make your relationships with your significant others, children, parents, friends, and other family members a priority. You do not want to be standing alone at the end of the day. As much as you need their support remember that they need you as well. Take a step back in life and appreciate the moments that you have been missing out on. After all, it is the little things that matter the most.
9. Make sleep a priority
Of course, being an Entrepreneur means putting in a lot of hard work. Along with the many sacrifices, sleep in one of them especially in the beginning stages. Every Entrepreneur experiences the late nights, early mornings, and stressful deadlines. But it is important that you make getting rest a priority. Listen to your mind. When it is exhausted, give it a break. Instead of pushing yourself to work all night long hit the turn off switch in your mind by midnight and get the rest that your body needs. A good night’s rest will give your mind a break allowing you to wake up feeling refreshed and ready to seize the day. Lack of sleep can cause weight gain, depression, grogginess, lack of motivation, fatigue, cause you to make mistakes, less alert, and could cause you to get sick. None of which you want to face because time is money as an Entrepreneur. Therefore, make sure you are listening to your body and giving it the rest that it REQUIRES.
10. Fuel your mind, soul, body, and heart.
Outside of work, do more of what makes your soul happy. Find a hobby and spend more time doing it. Make yourself a priority. It is vital. You may be getting by right now without taking care of yourself but there will come a time when it is all going to catch up to you. Without your health and happiness, your business will not flourish. Remember to make yourself a priority.
