Anyone who has ever experienced being greeted by your four-legged furry babies after a long day at work, or having your animals curled up beside you when you are sick understand the love of animals. It truly is like no other. The bond between animals and their owners truly represents unconditional love. Having pets improves our lives in many different ways.
Ways having a pet can be beneficial to you
1. They can be stress relievers
Everyone experiences stress at some point or another. The best feeling is coming home after a stressful day at work to your pets ready to greet you at the door. They are incredibly happy to see you and all they want to do is shower you with love. Suddenly, in these moments the weight of the world on your shoulders begins to diminish and you become refueled.
2. They give us security and protection
Having a pet such as a dog makes you feel safer in times when you are scared. For example, if you are someone who lives alone it is reassuring when you have a dog that your dog will protect you. You feel safer when you are in public because people are less likely to bother someone who has a dog rather than someone who is alone.
3. They keep us active
Having a pet pushes you to be more active because they need attention and exercise just like we do. If you have a dog, it requires you to take them outside to use the bathroom. Dogs like to go for walks and run around. Animals like to play. For example, I do not have a fenced yard nor a house. I live in an upstairs condominium with three dogs. My dogs need to go outside numerous times a day requiring me to go along with them. By doing so, I am staying active getting in steps and burning calories walking up and down my stairs numerous times a day. Pets keep you active in all sorts of ways and they can tag along for those morning runs.
4. They are supportive emotionally and physically
In the moments when we are overwhelmed, tired, stressed, depressed, etc. Pets are the perfect support system. They sense when you are down and they will be the first ones to pick you up. In those moments when you do not feel like getting out of bed, they will be right there to give you a wet, slobbery kiss forcing you to get up. They will give you energy when you have none.
5. They are a companion
Your four-legged furry baby will be your best friend and companion. The bond between pets and their owners is like no other.
6. They make us happy
It is almost impossible to look at those puppy eyes and not have it melt your heart. Animals are so innocent and pure. Their faces are enough to brighten up your world.
7. They love us unconditionally
I have two dogs of my own and I am telling you I have never experience true unconditional love before my dogs. Of course, if you are a parent you will otherwise. But those of you who are not parents, you can relate to the connection you have with your animals. No matter what your animals are always happy to see you and give you al the love in the world.
8. They are loyal
When animals develop a bond and respect for their owners they become loyal. They will be there by your side no matter what.
9. They hold you accountable to being responsible for someone other than yourself
Having a pet holds you accountable to be responsible for something other than yourself. Animals are like children. They need to be nurtured, taught, and taken care of. Without training your pets they will misbehave. Without potty training them they will go to the bathroom in your house. Your pets rely on you.
10. They are good for kids, elderly, and disabled individuals
Animals are great for emotional support, kids, elderly, and disabled individuals. Dogs all over the world are used for blind individuals to help them navigate around. There are service animals of all types for anyone who suffers from a condition and needs support.
